Further down the axis the corridor opened into a general workout area with a floating feature at the center creating the terminus of the path.
The center of the pavilion was a drinking fountain, which was symbolically important, water representing the life force of movement/exercise and
spatially important, equidistant from all areas of the gym. This central feature also became the social hub and a place where trainers
could monitor and visit with clients. The locker room design took the traditional locker room idea and turned it inside out.
Rather than ganging them on the perimeter with open dressing area in the center, the toilets, showers and lavatories were ganged in
one structure in the center, creating two separate zones. The more private inner zone provided access to showers and locker/ dressing area,
while the outer zone provided access to the more frequently used toilets and lavatories.
This aspect of the planning addressed the notions of innovation and efficiency in the design concept.
