Sybase

To fix the imbalance, the entry corridor was angled to end in the center of the facility, making it equally accessible from each end of the facility. The entry had a large black and white checkered wall (race track flag) that started on the outside of the building and tracked to the center hub. The central hub was designed as a plaza space with the conference center straight ahead and a cross-axial "boulevard" in both directions. At each end of the boulevard's terminus were floating structures housing the toilet cores, copy rooms, storage rooms and break rooms supporting those neighborhoods. These, like the entry wall, were skewed from the building grid and assigned strong graphic imagery to emphasize their importance. The boulevard itself was graphically patterned, but in a neutral palette, so that only the travel path and its destinations were featured. The rest of space was left subordinate by remaining neutral and orthogonal to the building grid. This allowed for efficient planning for the high density of open office cubicles, as well as future flexibility in reconfiguring, or moving user groups.
